Requesting Use of the Core

Use of the NCRR Core is limited to mice within barrier facilities and requires:

  • Approval from the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
  • Species-specific training for mice, offered through the Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC)
  • Approval to access the Parnassus Services Building (PSB)

Complete procedures are outlined on the NCRR Policies and Procedures Form. Download this document, fill out the last page, and send via e-mail to the Core Manager, Sandra Canchola, at sandra.canchola@ucsf.edu or via fax at (415) 502-2481. Once approved, training in the use of the equipment and use of the Core will be scheduled.

Getting Started

Once approved, you will be provided individual or small group training in neurobehavioral testing in a controlled environment. The support staff will provide user-friendly manuals for the equipment and hands-on training in the use of the equipment and data collection. You are encouraged to contact the Core Manager during the early phase of planning a project. As this is a multi-user core, rooms and use of equipment must be coordinated and reserved.

Small Group Session Tutorials

The NCRR will host, upon request, small group sessions. These sessions will introduce equipment, emphasizing both use and relevance to research paradigms, and basic instructions on how to operate this equipment. Requests may be made to the Core Manager.
