Dawn Magnusson, PT, PhD

Challenges and Strategies for Engaging Persons with a Disability in Physical Activity

Talk synopsis: Dr. Magnusson will share her research that highlights how 1 in 4 children in the United States is at risk for experiencing developmental delay. Despite improvements in the use of standardized developmental screening tools by early childhood providers, fewer than 25% of children with developmental concerns receive timely and appropriate services early in life. Moreover, low-income, minoritized children are least likely to have their delays identified and least likely to use services. Dr. Magnusson will discuss the mechanisms underlying these disparities and share the work her community is doing to address these disparities and advance health equity for young children and families.

Session moderated by Harvey Brockman and Richard Souza
