Erica King was presented with the Employee of the Year Award at the Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) Strictly Business recognition ceremony on May 3, 2018. She was one of only three individuals chosen from an original pool of 700 JVS program participants to receive this award which honors “individuals who have overcome incredible odds to build skills, find work, and transform their lives.” Erica came to UCSF in July of 2016 as part of the EXCEL training program, a joint public service venture with UCSF and JVS that helps individuals develop in-demand skills and assists them in making connections to find jobs. After only four months of her internship, Erica was hired on full-time as a Practice Coordinator at the Mission Bay Faculty Practice. We and our patients benefit every day from her hard work, determination, and positive attitude. In her acceptance speech, Erica discussed her time in the EXCEL program and her journey in becoming a member of the UC family. As part of this honor, Erica had a 5-minute film made about her experience and spoke at the ceremony, discussing her journey. Click here to check out the video! Congratulations, Erica!
