Assistant Clinical Professors Kenny Leung, PT, DPT, OCS and Danny Keller, PT, DPT were invited to attend a NASA Spine Symposium in Houston, TX, along with Drs. Jeannie Bailey and Jeffery Lotz. The symposium brought together physicians, radiologists, surgeons, physiatrists, biomechanists from across the nation, as well as the two UCSF physical therapists, to discuss low back issues in NASA astronauts and ways that current care and observation strategies could be improved.
The Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science’s very own Amber Fitzsimmons, PT, MS, DPTSc, has been chosen as a Fellow of the National Academies of Practice (NAP) in Physical Therapy. This high honor recognizes Dr. Fitzsimmons’ outstanding achievements throughout her career as a physical therapist, educator, mentor, and leader.
Following a fall semester of preparatory discussion sessions, Grace Wang (DPT3), Emily Gee (DPT3), Casey Nesbit (Assistant Professor) and Jet Lee (Associate Professor) from the UCSF/SFSU Graduate program in Physical Therapy went to Malawi for two weeks in December. They provided a three-day rehabilitation training program for 60 Home-Based Palliative Care Community Health Workers as well as physical therapy services at St. Gabriel’s Hospital.
