Acute Care Physical Therapy Residency

Ash HallerAsh Haller, PT, DPT, a graduate of the University of Nevada Las Vegas where I earned my doctorate in physical therapy and eventually published my first research article titled The Psychometric Properties of the Modified Fear of Falling Avoidance Behavior Questionnaire in Parkinson’s Disease and Older Adults: Modified Fear of Falling Behavior Questionnaire. Before graduate school, I studied Exercise and Sports Science at Oregon State University earning my Bachelor of Science in 2018. One of my biggest passions is advocacy for myself and other LGBTQ+ individuals working in the healthcare field. Outside of my career I can be found either going to or looking up my next concert in the Bay Area! I'm a proud, Genderqueer (pronouns they/them) physical therapist who loves to work as part of a team for compassionate and quality patient care. I look forward to my time at UCSF as an Acute Care Resident!

Katrina LiKatrina Li, PT, DPT, grew up in the Bay Area and now resides in San Francisco. After graduating from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, she continued on to graduate school and received her Doctor of Physical Therapy at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland in 2024. She discovered her passion for acute care PT during her clinical rotation where she enjoyed the challenges of working with patients with complex diagnoses and the opportunity to collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team. During the Acute Care Physical Therapy Residency program at UCSF, she hopes to develop her clinical reasoning, communication skills, and confidence. In her free time, Katrina enjoys going to the gym, bullet journaling, crocheting, cooking, crabbing, and spending time with her family, friends, partner, and cat, Mako.

 

Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency

Anna BergstromAnna Bergstrom, PT, DPT, grew up in Portland, Oregon where her desire to be a Physical Therapist developed at an early age. She was accepted into Marquette University’s accelerated DPT program in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she earned her B.S in Exercise Physiology and Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in six years. Anna graduated with high honors in May 2024. During her schooling, she was introduced to Neurologic rehabilitation which quickly captured her interest and unearthed a passion for working with this deserving population. Anna gained experience in several clinical settings including outpatient orthopedics at Benchmark Physical Therapy in Oregon, acute care at the Palo Alto VA hospital, and outpatient Neuro at Venture Physical Therapy in Kihei, Hawaii. Through the UCSF residency program, she is excited for the opportunity to expand her knowledge of neurological rehabilitation and hone her skills. She is thrilled to work with experts in this field and positively impact the lives of her patients. In her free time, Anna enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking, exploring new restaurants, being outside, staying physically active, and participating in recreational sports."

Juliana Guthner, PT, DPT, spent her childhood in Plano, Texas, and moved to Portland, Oregon where she finished middle and high school. Her passion for physical therapy began in early high school after she sustained multiple injuries from sports and participated in years of physical therapy. After graduating high school, Juliana played NCAA Division I Women's Soccer for the University of Colorado prior to transferring to and continuing to play for the University of Portland where she earned her B.S in Biology in 2020. She went on to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from UCSF/SFSU in 2024. During graduate school, Juliana completed research comparing the efficacy of different treatments for those with unilateral BPPV. Pursuing a neurological residency at UCSF will allow her to learn from remarkable neurological physical therapists to enhance her knowledge and refine her clinical skills, and teach in the DPT program. Her clinical interests range from vestibular disorders and concussion management to stroke and Parkinson's Disease rehabilitation. Outside of clinic, she enjoys weight-lifting, hiking, watching soccer, spending time with friends and family, and playing with her bengal cat.

 

Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency

Jackie LuiJackie Lui, PT, DPT, graduated from UC Davis in 2016 with a B.S. in Biotechnology and a minor in music. After working in the biotech industry and later public health, she realized her passion was in patient care. She received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the UCSF/SFSU DPT program in 2024. Jackie’s professional interests include injury prevention, health and wellness promotion, sports injuries, and chronic pain management. As a SF native, she is looking forward to working with patients in her community at UCSF. Pursuing orthopedic residency will allow her to improve her clinical decision-making skills and teach in the DPT program. Outside of the clinic, Jackie is an enthusiast of coffee and running shoes. Her many hobbies include baking, running, climbing, weightlifting, playing instruments, and caring for her plants.

Charlene-Mei RoblesCharlene-Mei Robles, PT, DPT, graduated from CSULB in 2019 with a B.S. in Kinesiology Exercise Science and received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from UCSF/SFSU in 2024. She is highly passionate in community service and teaching. Throughout physical therapy school, Charlene volunteered at various nonprofit organizations in the Bay Area, served on the editorial board for the inaugural arts & humanities journal at UCSF, and co-organized a healthcare high school outreach conference. Charlene’s clinical interests include the intersection of orthopedics and pelvic health, injury prevention, sports injuries, and addressing health inequity. As a resident, she is excited to advance her clinical knowledge and teach in the DPT program. In her free time, Charlene enjoys trying new restaurants, reading, running, kayaking, and going to Giants games. 

 

Ren Speis

Ren Speis, PT, DPT, graduated with a B.S. in Cognitive & Behavioral Neuroscience from UCSD in 2019, and later received a DPT from the joint UCSF/SFSU program in 2024. During her time in graduate school, she collaborated with multiple disciplines at UCSF to expand access to Medical Spanish curriculum and helped establish a novel PT-specific Medical Spanish elective within the UCSF/SFSU DPT curriculum. Additionally, she enjoyed serving her community by delivering pro bono PT services to the uninsured and underinsured population through the UCSF Community Clinic. Ren's clinical interests include pain neuroscience education, trauma-informed care & violence prevention, improving access to language-concordant care, and expanding PT's role in educating patients on how to safely return to sex after undergoing orthopaedic procedures. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys Olympic weightlifting, playing video games, devouring graphic novels, and taking lots of pictures of her pet cat (his name is Catman).

 

Keita Yada

Keita Yada, PT, DPT, CSCS, graduated from UC Berkeley in 2018 with a B.A. in Psychology and received his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Cal State University, Northridge in 2023, moving up to San Francisco soon after to work in the city. His professional interests lie in injury prevention through strength training, sports injuries, accessible healthcare, teaching, and pain neuroscience. As a resident, he is excited to hone his skillset as a clinician as well as an educator to the DPT program and his patients, aspiring to further advance the field of physical therapy. On his off time, Keita enjoys traveling, trying out different bakeries, and spending time with his dog Molly. He also loves to unwind by staying active through lifting, running, swimming, dance, and trying out various other activities.
